Research Projects

Development and Characterization of Drug-Loaded Polymer Micro- and Nanoparticulate Formulations for the Localized Controlled Release of Antibiotics from Tissue Sealant

Many challenges remain to achieve optimal therapies to eliminate surgical site infections, which notwithstanding represent a significant clinical problem in orthopedic medicine. The incorporation of antibiotic-loaded polymer particulates into tissue sealants should provide an optimal system to achieve safe and localized surgical site prophylaxis. Furthermore, cutting-edge electrospray-encapsulation techniques will allow the creation of novel micro- or nano-scale formulations with controlled performance characteristics to achieve optimal, localized therapeutic efficacy
