The Pharmacy Undergraduate Society (PhUS) represents the 600+ undergraduate students in UBC’s Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences. The society strives to provide a medium for the student’s voice and perspective regarding the pharmacy profession and practice. In addition to organizing social and professional events, seminars, lunchtime lectures, and liaising with the different clubs, PhUS also updates its members with relevant information on the latest pharmacy topics.
PhUS organizes many events throughout the year, including: Big Brother and Big Sister Night, Winter Gala, Pharmacy Awareness Week (PAW), Skits Night, intramural sport and competitions, and much more. For more information on the various events, refer to the Events page.
Each year, members of PhUS vote for their representatives onto the PhUS council. Elections are held once a year for a position (October for executive and first year general positions; April for second, third, and fourth year general positions). PhUS council members meet at least once a week to discuss various items on the agenda, along with motions brought forward, voted, and passed by the council executives and representatives of PhUS. Club representatives also attend the weekly meetings.
All members are able to attend the meetings. For more information on the date, time and location of meetings, please contact any PhUS council executive or member.
To find out more about the positions and duties of PhUS executive and general council members, visit the PhUS lounge or download the PhUS Code of Procedures (last updated November 2011).
Want to get involved? If you are interested in running for an elected position, additional information will become available around a month prior to election time (around October and April). Or, contact any of the current PhUS council members.
Visit our Facebook page and blog to find out more about PhUS.
The PhUS Lounge is located on the second floor of the Cunningham Building (across from the stairs). The lounge, outfitted with comfortable couches and tables, is for the use of all PhUS members. Feel free to enjoy and eat lunch in the lounge with friends, or meet new classmates from different years! Information about the different events that PhUS holds are available in the lounge, and a council member is generally available to answer any questions.
More information on the new PhUS lounge at the new Pharmaceutical Sciences building will be available shortly.
PhUS believes in assisting projects that further the education and needs of Pharmacy students. The PhUS Professional Development Fund (PDF) is available for all students to apply for.
The fund is dedicated towards the advancement of professional development initiatives and opportunities for PhUS members, excluding travel to professional conferences or competitions for which other funding mechanisms currently exist. The expenditure of this fund will be geared towards supporting events and initiatives that benefit Pharmacy students through providing educational and/or service opportunities as related to professional development.
The maximum amount for any one award is set at $500 to equitably maximize the number of proposals funded and the application deadline is Friday, April 1st, 2011 at 3pm. Please note that this fund is different from the Student Professional Development Fund available from the faculty.
