About The Course
Phar 401
This course has an emphasis on community pharmacy practice. Students will become familiar with the legal, technical, and professional elements of dispensing prescriptions and providing pharmaceutical care to a spectrum of patients. Specific course activities and tutorials will incorporate topics such as patient counseling and recommendations, consultations with health care providers, over-the-counter products, community-based clinics, ethics of practice, pharmacy bylaws, working in a pharmacy dispensary, pharmaceutical calculations, drug information, compounding of medications, and patient assessments. The objective of the course is to prepare students for the opportunity of providing pharmaceutical care to their patients in a safe and effective manner.
Learning Environment
My focus as the Coordinator for the final professional practice laboratory course is to impart the necessary pharmacy practice skills and applicable knowledge required for students to make the transition into licensed pharmacists.
Projects
Working with Certified Pharmacists and Standardized Patient Actors to create and expose students to practical and realistic scenarios encountered in Pharmacy Practice.
